چکیده

do form an important component of detritus in the neretic, as well as the oceanic realms. The greater awareness of bacteria in marine detritus as compared to fungi may be attributed to the absence of a comprehensive review on the role of fungi in detrital proceses, bringing together information from widely scattered publications. While evaluating the role of fungi in these processes, it is essential to know their diversity, biomass, biodegradative role and importance as food to detritivorous animals. Much information is now available on these aspects. Much more, however, remains unknown. This article is an attempt to bring together information on fungi in marine detritus.

Terrestrial and marine perspectives on modeling organic matter degradation pathways.

Organic matter (OM) plays a major role in both terrestrial and oceanic biogeochemical cycles. The amount of carbon stored in these systems is far greater than that of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) in the atmosphere, and annual fluxes of CO2 from these pools to the atmosphere exceed those from fossil fuel combustion. Understanding the processes that determine the fate of detrital material is important f...

Investigation of fungi diversity in airborne dust and their sources identification in Khuzestan province

Background and Objective: Considering the fact that Iran is located in semi-arid climate and the harmful effects of dust storms on different ecosystems, this study aimed to identify and locate dust storms using fungal bio-aerosols (spores) and HYSPLIT model in southwestern region of Iran. Materials and Methods: MODIS satellite images and HYSPLIT model were used to investigate the temporal chan...

Marine endophytic fungi mediated Silver nanoparticles and their application in plant growth promotion in Vigna radiata L.

Seaweeds tend to have the property of acting as a biofertilizer for plants. Endophytes are organisms that are capable of mimicking and producing secondary metabolites similar to the host. In this report, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from a marine endophytic fungus, Fusarium equiseti which was isolated from marine seaweed and identified using ITS sequencing. The synthes...

From Discovery to Production: Biotechnology of Marine Fungi for the Production of New Antibiotics

Filamentous fungi are well known for their capability of producing antibiotic natural products. Recent studies have demonstrated the potential of antimicrobials with vast chemodiversity from marine fungi. Development of such natural products into lead compounds requires sustainable supply. Marine biotechnology can significantly contribute to the production of new antibiotics at various levels o...

Antimicrobial Effects of Some Persian Gulf Marine Sponges

Background: We investigated in vitro antimicrobial activity of five marine sponge species collected from Kish Island in the Persian Gulf: Fascaplysinopsis reticulata, Callyspongia clavatus, Callyspongia siphonella, Niphates furcata, and Pseudosuberites clavatus against gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria, fungi and yeasts. Materials and Methods: Sponage extracts were prepared by two ...
